These large sized pneumatic tire fork lifts range in capacity from 16,500 lbs to 36,000 lbs capacity. In this size range Internal combustion fork lifts are most commonly equipped with large displacement six cylinder diesel engines, and rarely if at all, come from the factory with the optional eight cylinder gasoline or LPG (propane) engines.

These larger fork lifts have planetary drive axles, air brakes, and 3-speed power shift transmissions. Internal combustion pneumatic forklifts can be used indoors as long as there is adequate ventilation.

Pneumatic lift trucks are equipped with air filled pneumatic tires that are typically used outside on yard surfaces such as crushed concrete, packed gravel, or stabilized limestone. Pneumatic tire forklifts are not recommended to be used on dirt, except on a very limited basis, as long as it's well packed and not loose, or muddy. Pneumatic tire forklifts can also be used on hard, smooth surfaces such as concrete. Fork lifts with pneumatic tires have a larger turning radius than solid cushion warehouse tire forklifts and liftrucks.
